Is astrology evil? Does checking my horoscope constitute a religious violation of some sort? If so… how so? And what about psychic readings, or speaking to a medium or spiritual advisor before making an important life decision? Is that okay… or is that something that is frowned on by organized religion? Any of these questions sound familiar? If you are anything like the thousands of people who have asked EXACTLY this prior to seeking out astrological or spiritual advice, this article was written with YOU in mind! Curious to know more? You don’t need me to tell you that ALL organized religions have “commentaries” about all sorts of common cultural practices. In biblical times there were many different types of oracles, prophets and “seers”, who used a wide variety of different tools and techniques to “divine” the future.
And while some of the MOST famous people and prophets in all religions were those that used prophecy (and astrology) to divine future events, these very same leaders, and their followers often made rules that prohibited their followers from doing the same thing.
Hence, today… you’ll hear very literal Bible interpreters of ALL religions claiming that seeing a psychic is wrong, or that seeking out spiritual guidance, especially when it comes to communicating with a loved one who has past, is to be avoided. (Even though these are the very same things that our religions want us to believe are possible, and can be the MOST healing and helpful activities we can all do to align our actions with our life purpose and passion)
The good news?
A spiritual psychic or astrological reading can do far more GOOD for your life, and your belief in a kind and loving universe, than years and years of blind faith ever could. I have a close friend who is a Rabbi, and who laughs and “officially” makes no comment about psychics and mediums when asked by his congregation.
And yet… in a small study group in which we participate together of spiritually likeminded seekers from all religious denominations, we all practice and learn Kaballah together in the hope of being able to explore spiritual realms, and see future events, and connect with our own karma and life purpose along the way.
You’ll find similar truths in most spiritual organizations these days… and ALL religions have very deep practices that celebrate psychic abilities, spiritual communication and learning the TRUTH about reality by exploring non ordinary states of awareness as well. (There is Christian Mysticism, and Sufism in Islam, Kaballah in Judaism, and of course… all of the far East mediative practices are ALL about karma, prana, energy and spiritual realities that can be accessed through developing psychic powers).
